There's a part of me that wants the prank to continue, but it's just too cruel for me to bear, so I thought I might reveal some information I recently came into contact with. The following is from Joe Tyburczy, one of the contributing artists to Poor Farm Comics and Stories #2 and #3, when I asked him about #1:

No, there is no #1. When I added the "#2" it was a joke....a prank to confuse future generations and collectors....and I see it has worked!

It's little wonder why some of the biggest collections in the world aren't graced by a copy. And I can't help but wonder if the reason why Michael Langevin, the publisher, wouldn't answer me when pressed about it was to further prolong the prank. How cruel . . .

Funny, I just asked someone named Dan that ordered multiple copies of #2 and #3 and this was his response...
"Yes there is a poor farm #1. The person who printed these did not have any copies & did not know where to get any. #1 is very rare."

Guess he was one that got duped also, you can find his name in the Kennedy guide as one of Jay's contributors on page 6 also...

The reference at fault was the Illustrated Check list that left a space open for it. The other phantom is Folk Funnies 1. There was a 1 but the publishers burnt all of the copies at a beach party.

Now I know for sure that Langevin was in on the gag. Ah, well, at least the mystery has been solved at long last.

Say what? Do tell more, Arnie. I have never heard of Folks Funnies #1 being reality.

And I know how druggies go, but what is the point of the publishers burning all copies of a comic book at a beach party? Sounds like an urban legend.

Long ago, in at a San Diego con far away (in the late 70s or 1981 at the latest) I met the publisher of the the book. He was selling out his ug stock got %1 a book, bought 8 Adventures of Jay  etc. He said he did Folk 1 and I asked what happened to it. That's when he told me he destroyed it.

It sounds like another story that was concocted by a publisher to drive collectors mad.

Drunks?? You had to meet the guys, I think they had a porno shop on Broadway and 8th st in downtown SD. They were cool huys who I had talked to on several trips there, but they were out there.
