Wouldn't surprise me if there were plans for a #9, as many years passed between issues in the later days, but I have never seen one.

I got a few possable explinations.
Let me know which ya like best:

1) It was a checksum, pirate bait, or copyrite infringment detector.
2) The site was hacked.
3) One of the volunteers did it, probably Comix Junky, just before he left to start his own guide.
4) ".... but then i got high, then i got high, then i got high..."

I wanta go with #3, but you guys be the judge.
