Title: Hup by Gary Panter
Post by: 50Cent #II (1st print) on May 06, 2008, 04:14:09 PM
From the same genre as Raymond Pettibone and Robert Williams is "The Father of Punk Art" Gary Panter's Hup, here is his early work from approx. 1977, mentioned in this link: http://209.85.173.104/search?q=cache:Ct0xT_vrVdUJ:www.happyhomelandstore.com/interviews/garypanter.htm+%22Gary+Panter%22+Hup&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=10&gl=us
It's like a deluxe mini-comix.
He did this years before the Asshole (1980), which inspired S. Clay Wilson and Robert Williams to do Yama Yama / the Ugly Head.

You can see some interior pages of that comic directly on Panter's website: http://www.garypanter.com/work_comics02.html (http://www.garypanter.com/work_comics02.html).

Here's some info I received from Gary Panter regarding some of his comix (dated 03 June 2008).

I inquired if there was a 2nd printing by George DiCaprio of Hup (1977), that had 2 sheets glued together for the cover instead of 1 sheet of thick cover stock.

"Yes, George and I are friends ands i authorized him to make copies of Hup and The Asshole and maybe 101 Views of the Asshole.
The thick one was the original from when Justin Caroll was letting me share his studio on Melrose at Western back in aobut 1976 or 77."

So the way to look for the 2nd "authorized" print of Hup is to see if the cover is heavy stock or 2 sheets glued together.  Also there is a lot less green in the letters Hup on the cover and finally on page 7 (last interior page), there is a 7 within a circle on the left side of the page.

I think there was very few of these actually reprinted though.
