Title: Interesting interview with Rosenkranz regarding UGs and Greg Irons.
Post by: 50Cent #II (1st print) on November 14, 2007, 07:51:24 PM
Funny, but I think Patrick references some e-mail correspondences with me in the interview regarding Rick Griffen and Bode's early work.  I told him that I thought that Griffin's Surfer cartoons in Surfer magazine couldn't really be considered early UnderGround work and that I thought Bode's Das Kampf was the first UG "comix".  I, and the rest of us, must be one of those "collectors"...  haha.  The reference to the original art for Foo #2 cover on ebay is from my article I believe, but it's supposed to be Foo #5.

Interesting also the reference about Jim Morrison, wonder if he's aware of the recent news by a bar owner that the "truth" about Morrison's death is that he overdosed on heroine in a Paris bar bathroom and his body was brought back to his place...

Inkstuds has an interesting collection of interviews with more than 70 cartoonists and comic writers. You should listen to some of the others too. I may occasionally make jokes about comic collectors, but I also know they are the true repositories of history. I prize the ephemera of underground comix as much as the comic books -- hand written correspondence, flyers, announcements, catalogs, photos, audiotapes, etc. I managed to accumulate a lot of foreign comix in the 1970s, and my favorites are French magazines like L"Echo des Savanes and Charlie  mensuel and Hara-Kiri. I have boxes full of a French language Canadian underground paper called Mainmise that reprinted many American comix. Anybody interested in these?

Nice to see you posting here Patrick, we're honored.  Are you asking about interest in the Mainmise, as in if you want to know if people want to know more or purchase them?
What do you think of R. Crumbs Mr. Natural #1 original cover art going for over $100,000?

I'd like to find a good home for the Mainmise collection. I can't bring myself to toss them out.

$100,000?!?

PM or e-mail me what you're asking for the Mainmise, I'm always interested in UG's, the question is if I can scrounge up the money...
