Has anyone heard of this? Supposedly a high-grade collection from a San Fran native...There are several comix on Kermit's Pad website that are listed with this pedigree.
I ordered one just to add to the collection about a year ago, think it was an issue of Arcade. Was able to haggle with them, if the Snatch wasn't a .75 cent cover price edition, I would have bought one of those too. Don't know any info. about the collection though...
All I know is they are listed on eBay once in a while, usually at sky high prices. Never bought one.
i have heard of this collection. my thoughts are that attaching a pedigree to this particular collection of books was more a marketing ploy versus any real statement about the quality/quantity. if u know about pedigrees in other collectible fields, u get what i am trying to say... i agree that the prices for the eBay stuff are a little out of whack for a particular printing or grade... but some of the books on the website aren't bad (e.g. Arcades).
that being said, i believe in the concept of a pedigree for underground comix (opposite perhaps CGC & the Malcolm Whyte Collection) & that u-comix & crossovers appear in straight pedigrees (e.g. Mass. or Don Rosa or others). i like the concept of documenting the provenance of individual high grade copies... i.e. it means something to me when u say File Copies, or Donahue copies, or something else. and i collect Files Copies (i have one a Donahue Cunt, a Schenker Zap, & one Fred Todd File) and other "pedigree-esque" comix. I have about 5 u-comix from the IRS Collection (generally not considered a pedigree b/c of low-mid grade copies)... mostly Yellow Dogs in VGFN. I bought 2 Don Rosa Comix Books during 2007 & saw the #2 CGC 9.6 mysteriously pulled from Pedigree Comics website (sold).
anyways... the term pedigree is pretty strictly defined in comics collecting, and often it is tossed around too loosely. some would argue that pedigrees for u-comix can NOT exist based on these defintions, but i believe that is not true. i think collectors should judge them pretty strictly and try not to attach too much of a premium over a regular copy in similar grade (say 1.5x). i was working on an article long ago about pedigrees & whether they exist for UGs... seems i ought dredge that up again for 2008.

That sounds like a good idea. How much more weight does "pedigree" have over "provenance"?

Who the heck does CCG think they are? Of all the nerve to declare what IS and what ISN"T pedigree? Those funky slabbers will be the death of comic collecting yet. Screw them. The Whyte Collection must be considered pedigree...
Moot point since none of it has hit the marketplace. Right? Still all privately owned and intact? And yes, it certainly is a marketing ploy, but also an historical footnote. CCG's idea of pedigree works for comics but it seems spurious and snooty to not assign a comix collection with that pedigree simply because of an arbitrary number.
CCG doesn't 'own' fandom, comix, collectors, or what we decide.

i bought a Junkwaffel no 1 on ebay from Kermit with C'Ville in the seller description. It came absoultely minty fresh (which is what I was buying)...but it came without any cert of authenticity, which was supposed to be included in the auction, according to seller's description.
I witheld feedback, pending the COA. I got one weeks later, but it was a inkjet printed thing signed by the seller, and not from the collector.
In otherwords, i was happy with the item in it's condition, but the C'Ville thing adds nothing to its value.

I can't remember, it was a purchase about a year ago and I bought all he had. He also had some cool girlie magazines from the 1930's to 1950's and a lot of Frazetta and the like art books.
