Someone had multiple sets of them up a year ago. One of them, I'm on vacation right now so don;t kow which, has p\roginal Corben. Check the Corben site if you want to know more.
#1 (1963) This has to be one of the early connections to UnderGround Comix, it's one of the earliest appearances to Shelton's Wonder Wart-Hog, having only appeared in 2 issues of Bacchanal (Mar. & April 1962) and at least 8 issues of Texas Ranger starting in Dec. 1961 or Mar. 1962, depending on reference (anybody have issues of Texas Ranger to verify if the first Wonder Wart-Hog appeared in Dec. 1961? per Harvey's Art of the Comic Book (p. 211) and may have appeared in 1 or 2 issues of Help! (Nov. 1962 & May 1963) before Charlatan. But Charlatan was supposed to be the first appearance for Wonder Wart-Hog according to Frank Stack's interview with Gilbert Shelton in TCJ #187. Also, anyone know what issue was the God Nose cover, or at least what year that was?

I think the issue with the God Nose cover is from 1966, but I can't be sure right now.
Here is a good source for information about WWH that can help your research IIT...
The Wonder Wart-Hog Bibliography (http://www.nmia.com/~vrbass/wart-hog/)
Yeah, I saw that site. Thillaj checked his issues and stated that the Sept. 1962 issue of TR was the 1st TR appearance, but that site specifically states March. 1962 as the first TR with Wonder Wart-Hog.
Texas Ranger Mar 1962, "WW meets Super-Fool" (repr in Help! Nov62, Underground Classics WW Vol 2, Best of WW Vol. 2)
Texas Ranger Sept 1962, "WW meets Super-Hypnotist" (repr in Help! Feb 64, HOS 2, , Best of WW Vol. 1)

Anyone know if the first U.K. print is a .50p version? Won this one for $6...
You have to do some searching on the message boards. I know I posted about the first British printing of FB #1 and #2 somewhere. But, to answer your question, no, that's a third printing of #1. 40p and 45p preceded it.
Alright, I saved you some time and searched for it myself. I answered your question a long while back on the other board and even uploaded scans of the HFP 1sts of FB #1 and #2 on this page: http://www.comicspriceguide.com/forum2/topic.asp?whichpage=6&TOPIC_ID=37118&
The very first issue of Charlatan was in l959 or 60. Killeen published the first issue out of Stilwater, Oklahoma. When he moved to Talahassee in '63, he revived the magazine and started the numbering system over...So The Stilwater Charlatan has #1 on the cover...and so does the first Tallahassee Charlatan. Wonder Warthog was in the Stilwater Charlatan in '59 or '60. The Stilwater Charlatan has a black cover with a silhouette of the Poddy character on it.
In l963, Madamozelle magazine did a college issue which featured Wonder Warthog.
So by '63, The Warthog was well known on college campuses. I showed either a Warthog strip that appeared in Esquire...or the one that appeared in Madamozelle to the then young radio talkshow host Larry King. I suggested that King have Killeen on his show...On account of Charlatan was part of the whole free speech thing of that era.
Killeen did a Larry King radio interview in '63. This was when Larry King did a local show in Miami. I still have the Killeen interview on reel-to-reel tape somewhere.
Larry King was hip then. This was when he was in his late 20s and hadn't gotten into all that politics crap yet.
I talked to Killeen a few years ago. He's still in northern Florida. He raises race horses now.
Oh yeah...I almost forgot. Buy this: http://cgi.ebay.com/WACKY-PACKAGES-GARBAGE-PAIL-KIDS-JAY-LYNCH-ORIGINAL-ART_W0QQitemZ260203035397QQihZ016QQcategoryZ3979QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I find this fascinating Jay, what you've added here is possibly something new to the UG history books that Rosenkranz, Ellis and Skinn didn't uncover in their books. From everything I've read (which includes statements Shelton made) that Wonder Wart-Hog was first published in Bacchanal #1 (March, 1962). But this new info. might predate the fanzine Wild, which would make to me, the earliest "directly related" Underground published work. I thought from my reading that Bacchanal would be the first semi-professionally published work "directly related" to UnderGround and Wild fanzine (from 1959 and 1960) would be the first self-published "directly related" to UnderGround work and Vauhn Bode "Das Kampf" being the first UnderGround. This is just my opinion though...
Rosenkranz suggests that it might be Rick Griffins early surfer art, but the earliest item he's listed is a 1960 item "Surfers Annual" by Greg Noll, but Wild and this new earlier Charlatan would predate that.
Funny, but just rereading Skinn's book Comix on Wonder Wart-Hog and I see that he's got the known order correct on page 18 (Bacchanal 1962), but then changes it on page 34 (Texas Ranger 1961), someone didn't do their work so well...
Also, I'm confused...
Did Rick Griffin die in 1991 or not?
http://www.hollowbastion.org/griffin/
I'm kidding, it' looks like some artist has taken the same name....
The Austin based Keg and Lyke mags contained Shelton's stuff in '59. The paperback book titled Sick Jokes and it's sequel More Sick Jokes reprints some of Gilbert's Texas Ranger cartoons...and didn't the book Sick Jokes come out in '59?
The Dez Skinn book is full of inaccuracies. Rosenkranz's books are pretty acurate, though. The first Warthog strip was written by Killeen and drawn by Shelton. I think that that is the ONLY warthog strip Killeen ever wrote. So whatever Charlatan contains that...That would be the first one. But then again, Killeen mighta reprinted it in '63 when he started publishing the mag in Talahassee. And even before the Stilwater Charlatan....Killeen might have originally printed the first Warthog strip in Texas Ranger when he did that mag with Shelton when they were in college.
Yes, the info. is confusing. I also read that Killeen wrote what was supposed to be the first Wonder Wart-Hog story that appeared in the first Charlatan, but it ended up being printed in 1963. But on the Wonder Wart-Hog biography website it states that this is the same story that appeared in the earlier Bacchanal...
From the website:
Bacchanal #1 (Mar. 1962) "Fearless, Fighting, Foulmouthed Wonder Wart-Hog" repr in Best of WW Vol. 2)
Bacchanal #2 (Apr. 1962) Unknown WW story (probably Super-Fool)
Mademioselle (Aug 1962) Unknown WW story. (Although this is not a UT publication, this is referenced in the introduction to the Sept 1962 Texas Ranger introduction and is probably a reprint of one of the first stories from Bacchanal. More information is needed about this one.)
Texas Ranger (Sept 1962) "WW meets Super-Hypnotist" (repr in Help! Feb 64, HOS 2, , Best of WW Vol. 1)
Charlatan (unknown date in 1963) "Fearless, Fighting, Foulmouthed Wonder Wart-Hog" (same story as in Baccanal, but with different splash page.)
Found this portion of Stack interviewing Shelton for TCJ...
"STACK: What was the genesis of Wonder Wart-Hog?
SHELTON: The idea for this character came to me one day as I was walking down the street in New York in '61. I even remember exactly where I was, it was the corner of Avenue of the Americas and 45th Street, not that that had anything to do with it.
STACK: I remember the early roughs you did, on yellow sheets of paper. In fact, I may even still have some of them stuck off in my files someplace.
SHELTON: I was working on the first Wonder Wart-Hog story in the fall and winter of '61, when you and I lived in the same neighborhood on the upper west side of Manhattan. The first story was actually written by Bill Killeen, the former editor and publisher of Charlatan, the student humor magazine at Oklahoma State University. I had shown Killeen my ideas for the Wart-Hog strip, which was to start with the origin of the hero, and he told me I shouldn't start with the origin, I should start with the fully-developed character and come back later to the origin. He offered to write a story himself, which he would then publish in Charlatan magazine, which he intended to start publishing in his hometown of Lawrence, Massachusetts, now that he no longer attended Oklahoma State University.
STACK: So Wonder Wart-Hog was first published in Charlatan magazine?
SHELTON: No. There was a new college humor magazine that had been started back in Austin, called Bacchanal. The editor of Bacchanal, Dave Crossley, was one of a group of guys who had been fired from the staff of the Texas Ranger for sneaking obscenities into the illustrations and text. Bacchanal was going to be distributed at all the Southwest Conference colleges, and there was a lot of enthusiasm for this project. The magazine was well-done, with inside color and everything, but unfortunately it only lasted for two issues, March and April of '62. The first two Wonder Wart-Hog stories appeared in these."
Found that Dave did this work in The Texas Ranger before Bacchanal...
"Dobie on First Classism" by David Crossley in The Ranger [interview], September 1961
And here is another reference:

It's all in how you define what is underground. Shelton did lots of really crazy one panel gag cartoons in the late '50s. They weren't strips...But then again, neither were most of the cartoons that ran in the public gallery section of HELP. Does it have to be a strip to be underground? Bhob Stewart did a strip called JC in the Realist, about the adventures of Christ pretty early on. The Realist started in '58. By '63, Bhob and I were already old timers in the cartoonin' biz...But we didn't do strips then. We just did one panel gags. We did strips in Wild and the fanzines...but the stuff we sold to real magazines was one panel stuff...and we didn't concentrate on strips until Crumb came out with Zap. I wrote comic strip type stuff for Sick and Cracked but the art was by Bob Poowel and Bill Ward...and Bhob wrote strips for Castle of Frankenstein and the monster mags in '63 or thereabouts that other people drew...But mostly the stuff we actually drew ourselves was one panel things in those days. Hey...You know I'm still in touch with Joe Pilati, who did Smudge? Today he does this stuff http://corporatecampaign.org If you click on the Coca Cola thing...and scroll down to the bottom of the page, I did most of the art on the posters and flyers there. And they made a movie about Dohler, which covers his WILD days. info on that is at http://bbbmovie.com
College mags go back to the beginnings of the colleges...in the 1800s. In my lifetime, most college mags had the look of The NEW YORKER until Hefner did SHAFT magazine when he was at the University of Illinois. Shaft , and later Playboy and Harry Shearer's college mag SATYR at UCLA made the outlaw college mags of the day something that interested me and Skip and Spiegelman and Shelton...and we got involved in the whole college mag scene..Terry Gilliam did a mag called FANG ....it was a whole subculture and we were all in touch with each other...and then came acid....and the underground press. There was a straight college humor mag at FSU called Smoke Signals that kind of kissed the ass of the college administration. So Killeen did Charlatan as an alternative to it. We used to call it Schmuck Signals. Joel Beck was doing one called Pelican at a college in California. When he printed his early books he was a regular contributor to Pelican. But Pelican had a direct opposite mag too, that was edited by Bruce Henshtal...his was a mag of moderation. 'Twas sad. For Henshtal, years prior to that, edited SCONE, which was a nice pro-Kurtzman fanzine in the early '60s. I dunno....the whole thing just goes on and on... And the tradition goes back to 1910 or so...With HP Lovecraft and his Amateur Press Association. And it probably goes back further than that...to ancient Greece...with their erotic underground vases...
Rosenkranz sent me this Charlatan index from CounterMedia #4.
The Vol. 1 #1 (1963) I won states Tallahassee, Florida though...

In the Hog Moves Out issue, I don't have a cartoon. I do have a fumetti type thing called "Money Talks", though. It's photos of U.S. coins with funny captions in dialog baloons.
This was during the fumetti craze. Kurtzman did fumettis in Help...Shel Silverstein did a fumetti thing called TV JEEBIES in Playboy...
All of the Charlatans listed here seem to be Talahassee Charlatans. There was a Stilwater , Oklahoma version a few years before, though.
Oh wait...I see the coin photo thing listed in a later issue. Hmmm....Well he's probably correct on that.

Please don't say that it has 2 printings.
Why? Kennedy guide says the cover of the 1st print has matt paper, 2nd print has light weight glossy paper as per Jay in the guide.
Funny that the FUG doesn't show 2 prints.
Do you know something we don't Dr., or were you not aware of 2 printings?

Your acquisition rate is downright badazz 50c!
Unlike others, I got most of my 1st print knowledge from other collectors and not the guide. In fact, I rarely go to the guide except to know what I am missing or to check a first print of something like Mr Naturals and Motor City 1. (After years, I can finally spot the tell on that last one) I always assumed that there was only one printing of the Mirror. I also assumed that the ones I got from Jay and Jerry were firsts. Now I have to check and find out if I have a first. Hope I don't have to add another to the list now that Poor Farm 1 is gone. See, I really don't know everything, or at 109 (my birthday was this month) it may be just senility.
Thanks OM, hope they keep coming...
Dr_S, I leaning towards the second one... j/k.

This arrived today, so impressed with the packaging and the quality of this issue. It's shiney and looks like it might be the finest example of this I could imagine. Small amount of chipping and a light amount of rust on the upper staple is all that's wrong from this 45 year old magazine.
The article mentions that Wonder Wart-Hog appears recently in Help! magazine (this must be the Nov. 1962 issue), but the back says the 2nd issue of Charlatan is expected in November ('63) with "Wonder Wart-Hog Meets Super Fool". The article inside states that W W-H appeared first in Bacchanal ('62), then Help! (Nov. '62?) and then Texas Ranger (Aug. '62). But also mentions that he made an appearance in a issue "Last year" in Mademoiselle (I believe it was Aug. 1962).
And an article sheds more light on Wonder Wart-Hog. I'll try to take some pics of it and post it.
Wow, my hand was literally shaking as I gleened over how nice this copy is, looks almost new. This will go along great with my copy of Freak Brothers #1 (1st print) if it doesn't sell today.

ok, with the book open like that and the bug eyed guy, I thought maybe something was wrong with the book, like the staples were missing or something...
perhaps he was implying "holy fuck balls... how could some unwashed bumbleass flatten that glorious and important first printing underground?"
I cringed when I saw it open like that. After the cringe, I was enraged that someone would dare to do such a thing. My blood began to boil, so to speak, and some of it dribbled from out my left nostril. I suppose this would sum it up: :angry5:

Still a pretty uncommon book, I didn't even remember it having a 2nd printing since it comes up on eBay so infrequently. Are you still happy with the book at that price?
The 2nd print is still hard to get, but that's a shame, the seller misrepresenting his wares.

Some kind of Religious Underground didn't notice the Armadillo until you mentioned it, obviously out of place in Rio.
Just wanted to order something UG from Metropolis so see what all the complaining is about with them.
Still haven't purchased anything from Heritage Actions yet.

I miss Mike. What a great artist he was and a heck of a nice guy, too. I wish I could find more of his books, but I never see anything I need of his on eBay.
I know. I wish I had the complete TBH catalog. I'm missing a handful of books. They probably won't come around for a very long time.
I'm so happy I bought The Black Pullet and Ghoul-Land while I had the chance.
Won this Moon Comix #1 U.K. UnderGround that's missing a scan from the Wiki.

How about finding Greg Irons stuff from 1971 that Kennedy didn't even list? Big-Sky #1 (it's a poetry magazine/book), there are 2 copies available on abebooks for $50 each (actually 3, but the one for $45 has stains on the back).

Kennedy passed a great many things over that weren't purely comix, despite the fact that he did list some fanzine-ish material.
Well someone just beat me to #2 ($22.50) on abe.
Dr_S, you referring to Big-Sky? Was there UnderGround art on the cover of #2?
There were at least 10 (1976) issue of Big-Sky.
Here's the link for both #1's.

I'm interested in seeing a scan of the one Reverend, if you've got it handy?
So there was 600 copies of the regular version and 26 of the special edition?

I can dig it out, sure. Give me a day, or two, and I'll post it.
As far as I know, only those two editions. I've never seen the signed one in person, only came across it on Abe.
I'm still trying to find my copy of Tales of Virtue and Transformation, though I just found my copy of Tom Veitch Magazine #3, also with an Irons cover.

It's the scan of Tales of Virtue and Transformation that you requested.
Napalm Kiss is a nice title. I really like Matthews' art and wish he were still around. It would be nice to see the sorts of things he'd be doing these days.
Read about him doing Corben style after admiring his work, looks really good and hope to be able to pick up a copy of Horrific Romance some day.
Horrific Romance Comix was one of the first British undergrounds I had ever seen. It's a really nice little book, and only 971 copies exist.
Thanks for posting the scan,
Napalm Kiss #1 only had a 1,000 copies also.
I'm pretty sure #1 and #2 were both 1,000, but I'd have to check the indicia to be sure.
Let us know, because Nasty Tales only states the print run for #1 and so does the Wiki.
If you enjoy Matthews' work, you may also be interested in AS-FIX-E-8, if you can find a copy. It's a collection of stories written by Nick Cave and Lydia Lunch that he illustrated.

What do you guys think, did I just win something special? Seems like a rare bootleg from the description, or perhaps I suspect maybe the original Canadian edition from Macmillan?
Seller's description:
This is a super rare early copy of Robert Crumb's Head Comix from the late 1960's
Most likely a bootleg from Japan?
Measures 10 1/4" Long X 7 1/2" Wide
This is much smaller than the Ballantine printings from 1970 & 1972. It is even smaller than the 1988 20 year reprinting by Viking Press. Other than being smaller and has a grey lightbulb (as can be seen in the second picture, the copy in question is the one on the far right), it is exactly the same in every way as the other copies. It is the only other one besides the extremely rare hardcover version to have a blank price in the yellow circle on the right of the cover. The Paul Krassner intro and all of the stories are the same.
This copy is the only one I have seen on ebay in ten years of looking.
It is in very good condition with only a slight crease along the upper right edge. It has only slight soiling and has a good sheen to the cover.
(https://headcomix.info/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi15.ebayimg.com%2F07%2Fi%2F000%2Fda%2F3e%2Fc02e_12.JPG&hash=8d24cf0fe298967122d9ef20f0ff7c6da72ddb51)

I'm going to assume what you have there is the bootleg edition from Taiwan, which came out in the early 80's. The size is 7"x10". This book is available in Don D.'s catalog, which is from where I took the above information. Don has it listed at $12 for a good condition copy.
that lot looks like bathroom reading heaven! :01_bounce:
Uh oh, $12 a copy from Don. I think you might be right though, as it has the Ballentine info. near the spine and the first edition didn't have it.
I have to wonder if there was really a Canadian Macmillan edition printed...

All I know is you got some great deals. To be honest, I was right on both of those books, had them both on my watch list. That being said, I already have multiples of both, so I passed on both intentionally. I've been spending too much lately, and the wife just got wind of the credit card balance today via e-mail... :sad5:
Now that I see what the Freak Bros. #1 closed at, I kind of wished I had thrown in a bid.
As for the seller, not sure why he is generating such low bids. I bought his Rip Off Reviews #2 and #3 for the opening bid amounts of $15 and $10 and was VERY pleasantly surprised, they looked pristine, almost brand new.
That's a relief, I thought I was missing something as both look in nice condition and went for too little in my book (and I'm a low ball bidder). The FB #1 (1st) looks in great condition from the photos, we'll see when they arrive.

Hey Sir Real,
Just one one of these Jughead #134 (July 1966) showing Jughead holding a copy of Zap (about a year and a half before Zap came out).

Actually this doesn't seem to come up on eBay very often, this is only the 2nd one I've found since I put it on my search list when you posted it last year.
Is it just me or does it seem like Jughead wants in on the action he's watching, if you know what I mean. I just bet there's a bulge in his crotch.
Naw! Ya think? Naw!

Am I crazy, or is that the back cover?
And the mystery is solved, why yes it is and I didn't realize it was a flip book that has the cover price on both sides.
Re: Nasty Tales
I can never have enough duplicates of those. I e-mailed the seller but got the same message about him refusing to ship to the U.S. It's really silly, too, because those customs forms aren't even that detailed. Sometimes foreign sellers will refuse to ship here because the postage is too high, despite my offering to pay whatever it costs and then some for their time and effort. Ah, well.

You beat me to it—I was going to post that. I bought a comic from him not too long ago, but was disappointed by the condition. It was only $10, so no big deal.
For those interested, he has a bunch of Kenny Moran stuff: http://www.dougcomicworld.com/INVENTORY-UndergroundComicsSite.html (http://www.dougcomicworld.com/INVENTORY-UndergroundComicsSite.html).

I inquired about a few others, but they had been previously sold, so he doesn't seem to update the list too ofter (if ever). This is where I found the U.K. mag. reference for "the Revolution" (also sold) which I have been unable to find any other reference to it with much Google searching...
I think the only thing I've ever bought from him was a copy of the Superman vs. Muhammad Ali Treasury. A very cool book, his price was pretty good on that.
Deluxe white paper guts version. (won one of these from NeatStuff, but never received my package of wins, so I guess this helps)

This book isn't listed in the wiki. Is it in Fogel or Kennedy?
It's listed in both.

I'll have to check out what they say. Just curious if this is as rare as some of the other "deluxe" edition books like Skull Killer or Mondo Snarfo.
This is only the 2nd one I've been able to find since I've been looking before the NeatStuff auctions were on eBay. You have to look for the $3.50 cover price in the lower corner instead of the .75 cent cover price higher up. I won both for about the same price (but this is obviously in worse condition), so I don't think too many people know or have been looking for it, but if the frequency of it showing up on eBay is a indication then it's fairly uncommon.
I remember seeing someone post in the CBG forums about this set with a low print run, so I finally hit the BIN...

Good stuff, I have the Shocking Fear books, I was discussing them at some point with the Reverend. No wonder I never saw a book called Southern Knights #1. I think that's not a bad book to have, the title was around for quite a while and had a pretty good following at one time.
Looks interesting, won these signed editions...

Is that the front cover? Weird that it has no logo.
What I would like is the missing page for this book. It seems that they were ripping off some artist (Frazetta?) and had to tear a page out of every book. Sort of like Seduction of the Innocent. However, I know of copies of SOI with the page ($$$$) Does any one have a page of the GFA with the missing page?
I'll have to check my copy, but I'm fairly certain the page is missing. My copy came with a Xeroxed letter from the author, too, if I'm not mistaken.
Won this lot of mini's for 99 cents + shipping.
Has a copy of The Shortcomings of Red Banana (only 112 Signed and numbered copies and $6 in the JK). Fairly sure it's Roger May selling them too...

Now to see which rainbow inside cover version this one is and to find out which one is the other one I still need.
Picked this Nucleus #1 (May 1979) from the Roger May purchases and was surprised to find a Cerebus story in it (p. 2-6). The Kennedy Guide states this is the first appearance of Cerebus outside his own series, but the fanzine Gratis I have came out a year before this (Power Comics #1 story isn't Cerebus) so Nucleus #1 is probably the first appearance of Cerebus in a comic book outside his own series. Fogel's Guide has this listed at $30 in 9.4 and the new OS (2008) has it at $65 in 9.2.

Hey 50cent. You outsniped me of the FFF #2. Congrats.
Thanks Eggs...
I picked up this one, didn't know that Ed "Big Daddy" Roth had this out before his regular Rat Fink series...
I got one of those Rat Fink newsprint editions recently. There were three, in all.
If you're interested in Rat Fink stuff, this page has just about everything scanned in: http://www.vsrnonline.com/BDR_Ads/RothComics.htm (http://www.vsrnonline.com/BDR_Ads/RothComics.htm).
Anyone know about this one, it's from 1967 and contains Wood art.

Wham-o? Aren't those the guys who make frisbees? I would have to say it's definitely not an underground comix as it has the Comics Code Authority seal on it.
Yeah, I know. But I picked it up for under $20 and it's listed at $130 in 9.2 in the OS. Read it's a hard to find item, though I've seen a few on eBay recently after seeing none for a long time. This came out about the same time as Witzend and looks like before his work at Marvel.

Bijou #2 (1st), as well, but it looks pretty ragged.
I've got a Wham-o Giant somewhere. Beat-up, folded in half. Haven't seen it in years.
As i remember it; It is listed in Overstreet. (haven't read one of those in years either),
Contents is all reprint material, printed undersize to fit more in,
4 regular pages (shrunk) per giant page.
I was underwhelmed.
It was a one-shot novelty, with no respect for the contents.
I consider this one another nice win (on a bit of a roll lately). Beat and maybe not complete (no Map) and HARD TO FIND, but one of my top wants and not for very much...
Think I've seen Ahkumulate win the only other 2 I've seen since I've started collecting UG's a year and a half ago (which means they show up about 1 every 6 months or so).

Miami Pop is very difficult to find in any condition. I still need a copy. I was searching for one not too long ago when I stumbled upon these expired auctions and was made instantly nauseous:
- Miami Pop Festival, CGC 5.5, $11.00 (http://comics.ha.com/common/view_item.php?Sale_No=16015&Lot_No=17204&src=pr)
- Miami Pop Festival, CGC 7.0, $45.00 (http://comics.ha.com/common/view_item.php?Sale_No=16014&Lot_No=16214&src=pr)
- Miami Pop Festival, CGC 8.5, $21.00 (http://comics.ha.com/common/view_item.php?Sale_No=15122&Lot_No=16135&src=pr)
Some lucky bastard got that 8.5 for next to nothing. I wish I had been actively looking for that book back then. It just wasn't that high of a priority for me.
Yeah, I saw those, but were way before I started over 2 years ago. Yes, reminds me of the Cunt that went for $1 buy it now to some lucky bastard in Belguim...
The whole set for $5, and a .39 cent #1 (first print was .39 cent cover price, but it's not documented anywhere if there was more than one .39 printing or how many, but I've seen .49, .59, .69 etc...)
Weird set, popular when Hansi when Hansi Came out. More anti-Catholic than Bill Maher.
Picked up a few Ug's this past weekend at a comic book show. Got a copy of Graphic Fantasy #1 (already have the annual so all I need is #2), a nice copy of Spiffy Stories (odd how I sell one and a couple days later another one shows up in my hands), a nice copy of Freak Brothers #2 (common blue interior cover, but with the much less common FB #2 ad on back cover), Gunfighter #4 and a Spaced #1 (with bats, last one of the series that I needed).
Oh, plus about 1,500 (10 additional short boxes) addition Ug's of the stock that was in storage. Almost no new titles, these are multiples of most of the titles I picked up 2 weeks ago. (Got to be pushing around 5,000 Ug's from the stock take over, that's got to be one of the largest stock of vintage Ug's???)

This one the sellers confirms has the centerfold attached.
Didn't the last one I saw on eBay last year go for $800? :headbang:
(https://headcomix.info/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi16.ebayimg.com%2F01%2Fi%2F000%2Fef%2F15%2Fc22d_1.JPG&hash=af725e33b795ea1c9ea65db3f6567e1f4c9f252a)
As far as I know, there were two versions of that statue, one which was unsigned (3,000) and one which was signed and numbered (100). The one that went for $800 was likely the signed edition.
Edit: Here are a few pics I found of the signed version: http://www.vividvision.com/crumb.html (http://www.vividvision.com/crumb.html).
I don't think so. It was discussed on the old CPG forums, but I couldn't find it when I did a search. I think I mentioned that it wasn't even the signed version and I recall someone saying another one went for around a thousand not long before. I think I also mentioned how this had a 3,000 edition, much more than others, yet for some reason the Catholic School Girl one goes for a lot more.
Tried again, but can't find the thread. It might have been in the long thread that got deleted? Anyone recall the thread?
Already an upgrade for my 1st print.

Thought I read somewhere that Dogman had a really low print run, but doing a search I can't find it now in this forum or the old CPG forum? Rev. was that you that stated that, but I'm sure you would have bid on it if you had?
1,000 copies according to Nasty Tales, but I thought I had read it on the forums?
I've won some things from him in the past and he does ship overseas.
There were 1,000 copies of Dogman: 100 s/n by both Emerson and Fischer, the other 900 unsigned/unnumbered.
I'm always buying duplicates of the obscure British titles because they haven't come into their own. Normally, I would've bid on that copy of Dogman, but I already have one signed and two unsigned copies, so I passed this time around.
The other Large Cow titles are next to impossible to come by.
My first copy of this one, not high grade, but for $20 shipped who can complain?

How incredible and rare is this one?
Plymell told me he didn't even have a copy of this until he found one last year, he said the only copy he knew about was "the only other copy I knew of was with Glenn Todd, the last soul at the Gough St. S.F. pad."
This is the issue that lead to the whole Underground Comix movement (inspired by Yarrowstalks #2's "Head Comix" page). You can see the inside bootleg page of "Head Comix" from the Yarrowstalks #2. This is one of my grails for this reason.

As a Post Script, I've negotiated a trade for a Big Ass #1 (1st print) too, so I'm pretty stoked.
Wow, sweet books!
Congrats!
Won copies of Shit the Dog #1, 2, 4 :01_bounce:, just need #3 now...
Should be interesting?
I'm jealous. For one reason or another, I always seem to miss out on these CoG comics/tracts.
Flatlanders looks to have the same character on the cover as Poorkid, which was done by "Jacob Cartoon," whoever he was. I seriously need to add "Children of God" to my saved searches.
Thanks, I'll post scans of the covers when they arrive.
Not really familiar with either underground newspaper (the Staff or Grass Roots).

Took a chance and won this Big Ass #1 this morning after throwing up a snipe with the new info. out yesterday. Seller states it's a 5th print with glossy paper. Just might be a 1st print then. But since it hasn't arrived, there's no guarantee. But if anyone is looking for a chance at a first print then you can have it for $30 shipped directly to you (shipping is $8.60 unregistered airmail, so with Paypal fees it's only about $20 for me or $10 profit) from the Netherlands as I've already got one...

I won this lot and thought it was a nice one. 9 issues of Atom Mind (2 I think with R. Crumb covers), 7 of the issues are signed by Poets including Charles Plymell.

It's not a bad item for only 2,000 copies and the lawsuit behind it.
Ordered a copy of Fux! Megascene (1965) by Branaman. It's a softcover book/magazine printed by Branaman, I believe featuring his art. Hope it arrives before I meet him and he can sign all 3 items.
I've seen 2 references to the title being Megascean, but I don't think they actually had a copy of it.

Anyone know the story behind this, I received my copy today and it oddly states it's an official licensed product of Hooters Inc. So was this a lie or something else.

No, I don't believe it's a lie. Doing a Google search, I found a few articles:
http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m3190/is_n8_v32/ai_20338372
This one says it was licensed.
http://www.fredknoz.com/hooters.html
Key sentence from this:
QuoteA lawsuit commenced after this was printed between Hooters organizations and forced the recall of the comic books after shipping.
I'm assuming this might mean that one of the Hooters franchisees authorized it while another didn't.

Why?... is there a suspicion of possible bogusness or something more heinous? Or are you dealing with someone possibly of a suspicious nature????

Good luck..it's a pretty twisted piece of literature...too bad Matthews is dead...I kind of like his style both in art and writing....a real shame, but a great collection!

big bucks, was that one of the books on your need list, or are you going to resell it after paying that much?
I gots it sold twice over.
I guess it's a good thing your buyer isn't an active eBayer.
twice over means at least 2 buyers. Most comic dealers i know buy from eBay for resale and sell their lesser stuff on it. As you can see, I pay high for resale for stuff I want, so that's the reason my prices are what they are. Besides my clients aren't even in the country except the one who does bid on eBay for Mercedes.
Wow, I didn't know the Gunfighter 3s were going for over $200 each. I bought 2 locally right after Fogel came out to go with my others. I think it has the smallest print run of the Gunfighters but I may be wrong. Someone told me around 300? copies.... Sweet, I got 2.3% of the print run. I'm not sure if i recall correctly but isn't the size of those books just a bit bigger than the regular size comix? I may have to put those babies to the side if they are shooting up that quickly.
According to Kennedy there are 200-300 copies. I have a client who wanted it and would pay me $$$. However, I lost out on it twice at $300. I was happy to get the copy I did since I means I have a sale. I don't think I would bid $300 for a copy anymore. since I have filled a hole. But, if you want to trade yours or sell it for $150 let me know. If you are going to be at the San Diego con, come to table J9 at the end of the 1200 aisle (by the food)
I wish I was going to the SD con this year. I have the time off but I'm still repairing damage around my property from a couple storms in late May and June. I'm just happy that I got my roof fixed as soon as I did before more storms blew the rest of it away. There's been so much tornado/hail/wind damage around my area that the construction guys are making a fortune.
Hey, as little as 200 copies?!?! I noticed the first 3 issues were made in Lincoln but with three different addresses for each issue, I think. I might have to do more digging around Lincoln and see if there might be any more issues sitting around. There's lots of UG collectors around here. If I find anymore, I'll let everyone know.

Ooh, a 1st edition. Ooh, nice. Ooh.
Thanks. I've seen 3 of these on eBay and won them all (though didn't received the 1st one from Neat Stuff). So I'm estimating they show up about once every 6 months on average.

The 25 Aug. 1972 also has a article by Geerdes titled Comix World (Air Pirates Comics! Page) p. 16-17.
Thanks for posting those... I'm not familiar with the Staff and haven't noticed any in Clay's stash. I'll have to keep an eye out for them in the future.
Re: the Staff
In issue #60 (27 Oct. 1972), he has an article titled "It's Only A Comic Book" (p. 22-23). By the way, the cover is great, looks like Corben with a little Giger, can't read the signature but it appears to maybe be "R. Bertrand"? Anyone know more about his art?
If you're going to look for the Staff Underground Newspapers, it was located in Hollywood and printed in Riverside, CA. Editor was Brian Kirby, "Produced by the former staff of the LOS ANGELES FREE PRESS". Issue #1 (Sept. 10, 1971) states Inside: Gilbert Shelton (so I would assume with his art and or an article).
Looks like Geerdes did one called "Women's Lib Comix" before the 3 Nov. 1972 issue (#61) because there is a reader's response to it printed in that issue regarding the story on Tits and Clits Comix.
Here's a pic. of the cover.
Last Nasty Tales #1 to finish the set...
(https://headcomix.info/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi8.ebayimg.com%2F05%2Fi%2F000%2Ffc%2Fa1%2F5acc_1.JPG&hash=14fa8634b5d9a6e5eadf9d3e3cb2407cab7f3dd8)
Even I am jealous, I need 1 and 2,
I've got an extra #2 if you want it for $25. But I thought you said you only need #7 last time, which is the only other one I have an extra of.
Bringthem to San Diego and we can wheel and deal. Also the extra children of god if you haven't sold them. (What shape are the 2 and 7?) I thought I had one from my list, but this is a cover that I never saw. The Nasty Tales I have listed in my collection file has no # so I assume it was 1, probably a book or something like the trials.
Nasty Tales #1 can be tough to find. I paid around $40 for a group of three comics that had the issue in it (the other two were commons), just to get it.
Not Undergound but I thought this was a nice win.
Car Toons #1 (Pete Millar, 1959)
value not listed in Overstreet

Another non-comix, but comix related item...
Now, Now (1965) by Charles Plymell with a R. Branaman cover.
But 30 euros (almost $50) to ship???
After not receiving my 75 years of Comics from Albert Morse's wife, I contacted her and let he know it never arrived. She said she would ship out another one, and it arrived today.
(https://headcomix.info/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi2.ebayimg.com%2F03%2Fi%2F000%2Fdb%2F23%2F6640_1.JPG&hash=6e224adaf18403bfabb6dfea4c627599650b3237)
Inside I found this:
Anyone know any info about this???
One Hundred Bearded Clams... :laughing6:
It's from 1974 by Gary Hallgren, didn't recognize the name but see in the JK that he's done quite a bit of Ug Comix art.

He was one of the Air Pirates, I think. I know he did the Tortoise and the Hare book.
Is it a photocopy?
Doesn't look like it to me, it's a textured paper and it appears older. Since it's from Albert's wife, I don't think it is.
Took a chance on this listing without a pic. and no description of the cover price and it arrived today. It's a first print and the edition I was hoping for (the other edition of Adventures of Fat Freddy's Cat has a yellow cover and is similar in format to the old Garfield books). I don't think I've seen any 1st prints on eBay before and think these are really hard to find ($3.95 cover price), usually they are all 2nd prints with $4.95 cover prices.

Here's one that I know myself and a few people have been searching for.
Saw it for sale and asked what they expected for it, they said $250-300. I let them know that the 2006 FUG had it for $35 (NM 9.4) and the HRP was $67 and wished them luck. They responded with something more reasonable. I probably still overpaid, but I know that this one doesn't show up that often.
Note that some copies have the .50 cent cover price stamped on it in green/blue and some don't.
My Horrific Romance finally arrived today (seller said he took so long to ship because he misplaced my Money Order?).
This one is a beauty and in NM condition.
I was surprised to find it is smaller than a normal comic, being from the U.K. I thought it would be magazine size. Whoever cut it used a dull blade and it's rough on the edges though.
This has to be my favorite U.K. underground (and my Nasty Tales #1 arrived today too, but this is a much nicer find). High Quality paper and cover, beautiful and twisted art...
Mine's exactly the same. I think Matthews says on the inside that he cut them by hand. It shows and adds a little charm to the proceedings....don't you think? I'm in agreement with you on it being my fave UK UG.....I especially love the lurid colors of the covers! Congrats on a fine score, indeed!
This beauty just arrived today from Germany.
It's not Ug but kind of related.
Contains so much art or writings by so many of the big names of the Beat generation.
Cover is by Branaman (interestingly his name is spelled Brannaman, so searching I find some stuff of his credited that way) and many pieces inside including Dion Wright, Burroughs, Ginsberg, Ferlinghetti, Michael Bowen, Dennis Hopper, Deanwell (could this be their friend Dean Stockwell?) and Bruce Conner just to name a few, printed by Charles Plymell in 1965 on the same Multilith that Zap Comix #1 would be printed on 3 years later.
Great cover joke! :01_bounce:
I hate when I have to exchange to Euros and send out payment but...
How many pfennings to the Euro?
I'm sure you know this already, but a German pfennig was a German cent, so this was 1 Deutch Mark before they went to Euros. I'm a bit curious about this item that states 1971 on it. It was printed in Holland (they used Guilders and cents) but with the German price I think this was printed for the German market?
All the lingo on the cover is german...strange the Dutch connection, though....BTW, I just like the word 'Pfenning"....it's that PF together thing...it's like K and B in comedy...shit makes me laugh...who knows why????? It's Pfunny to me....
I believe the literal translation on the cover is "a real release print" or it's stating "a authorized release printing" if my German isn't that faded.
have a look : http://headcomix.info/wiki/doku.php?id=home_grown_comix
Was surprised I won this one, it's an error copy that has the guts printed upside down.
Won this lot from mmokken, has this French Ug called Surprise #5 with a nice Geiser cover (seems that there are 2 covers from the series not scanned for the Wiki, but this isn't one of them).

My only win from the JustKids listings, I recall this title for some reason from I think JK but couldn't remember if it was one of the HTF items so I bid anyway. Have to read up a little on it when I get back home...
I see that Ahkumulate won the high grade Mad Peck #2.
Do you know what the Mad Peck 1 looks like. I always thought the one you said was 2 was really the 1. But I was never sure.
