My package from the U.K. arrived today an included a copy of Nasty Tales #2 (Aug. 1971) and looking through it I see there is a Wonder Wart-Hog story (reprinted from Hydrogen Bomb Funnies), Bode's The Machines, a Freak Brothers story, and a couple from R. Crumb along with some other artists works I think are from the U.K (Chris Welch, Shark, Edward (x2), F. Schrier).
It has a 20p cover price and is produced by Meep Comix Group and Published by Bloom Publications Ltd. and Printed by Daeha Publications Ltd.
It's oversized (Mag. sized)
Scan for the Wiki of my Nasty Tales #7 that arrived yesterday. Now I just need #1, 3, 4, 5, 6.

You ruined my day. I didn't know there was a 7. Any after that?
No, just #1-7 and an offshoot The Trials of Nasty Tales (the one in the middle should arrive tomorrow or Saturday).

Trials of Nasty Tales was published by the Oz group (H. Bunch) and detailed just what the title says, the obscenity trial. Only the seven issues.
Don't worry, Doc, #7 isn't that tough to get. I have a spare, if you're interested, though it's in lesser condition.
I have Nasty Tales #5, #7 and the Trials issue (is that #6?).
Nah, the Trials issue was something else entirely, published by another group of people. Speaking of which, if anyone is interested in a reader copy of it, Last Gasp still has a stock of them for $1.95. There was an obscene amount of them printed, which explains that.
http://www.lastgasp.com/ (http://www.lastgasp.com/)
Was there a U.K. variant also?
It's only U.K. Last Gasp sells the odd British book. They probably still have Committed Comix, Edward's Heave (search for "Edward Heave"), Serious Comics (search for "Serious Comix") and other Ar-Zak/H. Bunch Associates titles. They had huge print runs of 10-20k and were imported into this country back in the '70s. Be warned, though, the copies you get from them are going to be readers at best, with a bunch of price stickers, one on top of another.
Edit: I just searched their site and they have the above except for Edward's Heave, which seems to have, at long last, sold out. They still have copies of Trevor Goring's View from the Void for $1.50, too, another British book with a hefty print run.

Any other issues you have multiples of?
Oddly, no. For some reason, #1-6 are particularly difficult to come by, even #7, but that one pops up much more often. The same goes for It's All Lies #1-6 (early '70s), which reprints Crumb and others, with new British material added in. Around 10-20k of each were printed but are nearly impossible to find today. It was just recently that I was able to get a complete run, which cost me nearly $150 with shipping.

after reading a little about this title in Dez Skinn's COMIX, i am interested to put together a run. i suspected that they were difficult to get, and i will likely have to pay out the ass to have them shipped over the pond... but someday!
BTW... that Leather Nun cover is smokin'!
They are key books in the British underground, to be sure.
Another thing is that they are exceedingly difficult to find in high grade. Almost all of the copies I've seen have been heavily read and have rusty staples. Their size (A4) is another factor. It's not uncommon to see many British comix with creasing/curling along the top of the spine because they're longer than the average magazine and improperly stored as a result. I use 2000 A.D. bags with specially-cut Full-Backs and store them in CGC magazine boxes, which are too tall, but better than having a lid resting atop them.
If you want more info. on this series, I think this will answer all.

I ordered my copy yesterday, coincidently.
My Trials of Nasty Tales copy arrived today, it's a definite worthwhile purchase. Contains reprint works from most of the big UG artists.
Huxley's book is a good read, but his index of titles, borrowed in large part from Burns, is a bit sloppy and far from complete, then again, there was a lot of material that Burns missed, too. Alas, you'll just have to wait for my book for that.

There you go!
This book might be helpful for that book, Rev.

Interesting! I hadn't seen that one. A bit pricey. I wish I could browse it first.
Does this book list all of the British udergrounds (or at least o 1982) and the artist's that they contain? Can't ,ake a want ist until I know what exists. I have been sorting strough my foreign ugs the last week, trying to figure out what I got. I have about 160+ bBritish ones, but have no idea wha that means, I also have no idea of values. Any price guides?
I'm sure you've come into contact with a copy of Mal Burns' Comix Index. That's a nice start and is complimented by David Huxley's Nasty Tales, which basically copies Burns' index and goes a few years beyond. Be warned, though, that Burns made mistakes and omitted a good deal of material, as well. Lastly, there's also Dez Skinn's Comix: The Underground Revolution, of which I'm sure you're aware. The book itself is a great read (Cheers, Dez!), though its British index is sloppy and not nearly complete, omitting the painfully obscure titles, some of which are found in Burns' and Huxley. It does, however, list some of the newer books on the scene, such as Electric Soup, MacBam Brothers, Meng and Ecker, Shit the Dog, etc.
No price guide. Fogel's supplement is going to be listing British comix, though my wager is that the list will be very far from what might be considered complete. I was helping him with it some time ago, but he stopped replying to my e-mails, so I stopped sending information. It's a shame, because there are at least 150, or more, obscure books that weren't on my initial list.
Send me a list of what you have and I can give you a fairly accurate assessment of what they're worth. If you have doubles that you're willing to sell or trade, even better. I have no qualms about overpaying for the titles that I'm still in search of and I have piles of British trade bait.

Heh, good luck getting him to reply . . . I commend you if you do.
Damn I want me some NASTY TALES... save me a set DrS!!

I wonder if this is the archive he alludes to on the ComicSpace page?

Edit: I finally found a copy of Graphixus #5b.
Here's another book that seems to have essays about some UG artists that might be of interest to Rev.

As a matter of fact, I have that, but thanks for the tip. It was included with a sampling of random items from Head Press that I won on eBay awhile back. I was trying to get a copy of the numbered Killer Komix and that came along for the ride.
Scan for the Wiki.
Anyone interested in #2 and 7?
