Title: Kennedy's Guide - Multiple Printings?
Post by: Sir Real on January 11, 2008, 03:25:53 AM
Was there more than one printing of Kennedy's UG Comix Price Guide (http://headcomix.info/wiki/doku.php?id=official_underground_and_newave_comix_price_guide_the)?  I seem to remember that there was a hard cover edition.

Nan nah nah Do you have the HC version with the label made out to you. The first 50 or so had it and were given out by Jay to whoever he deemed worthy of the treasure.

Okay, does a hard cover and a soft cover constitute two printings?

If so, does someone have the relevant publishing info?

I would think that all of the book blocks were printed at the same time and simply bound differently, so it's more like two version of the same printing.

There is a ISBN for each version. (standard pratice)
Evidence that they were printed together is that both ISBN are in the indicia.

Is there a price difference between the two?

I have a Signed/Numbered Ltd ed. of the hardcover.  Was there also a regular edition without the limitation?

Yes.  Jay made 350 signed copies  (Kennedy and Griffith), given out to people he knew. He also gave me a label for a HC I had sold, and he autographed it for me (no Griffith). So I guess there were 350 1/2 ,  The where other unsigned HCs but I do not know how many. Check with Jerry Weist, the publisher. As a side note, at one point the sc were being dumped in NYC for $1 each. Too bad I didn't buy them then. However, as part of a larger deal, I bought about 66 from Jerry for $10 each. Still have an unopened case of 33 left..

Yeah. I bought my first softcover copy at a store in Columbus, OH that only sold remainders, in the mid-80's for .98. I still have that one as it has a small pink dot on the bottom edge, along with  another 2 I've picked up throughout the years.  Wish I had bought the whole display.  The Ltd. Ed. I paid $10 for when a comic store went out of biz here in SF around 10 years ago.  It had been in a box of stuff the owner forgot he had...that, and the Signed/Ltd. Ed, 2 vol. Maus with the print, which he sold me for the princely sum of $25, and a bunch of UG that he just gave me cause he didn't think there was much interest with the fanboys for that material.  Nothing worth writing home about as far as high collectibility, but lots of stuff that filled some holes... there was a nice Insect Fear #1, and some rough Bogeyman's (men?) and nice reading copies of Snatch, Jiz, Felch and The Snatch Sampler.  A decent haul for not much $.
