Or could it be a remnant of another Dharma Initiative bit of research, like teleportation or something more bizarre? Obviously there is a lot more to the Island than what is going on in the present, especially since Faraday illustrated that there is some kind of time burp between the island and everywhere else, but your theory of long past, or ancient times on the island is intriguing.  It reminds me of that famous Richard McGuire strip titled "Here", where each panel is the same space, yet what changes is the time of that particular space, between panels.  It's in Comic Art #8, and I think it appeared in an issue of Raw at some point.  A whole TV series based on that type of premise would be pretty interesting, and the Lost island is the perfect 'panel' for the show!

    >OK, that makes sense, but if it's after Sayid left the island why does the desk clerk say it's Dec., 2005?  Didn't they leave the island now?  Or very shortly after now?

Now in Lost time is 100 days after they landed on the island, not 2008.  I can't remember exactly but it's either late 2004 or early 2005 in the most recent episode.  By  the time Ben and Sayid meet  in that desert town it's later, so December 2005 makes sense.
Right, right, of course!  I'd completely forgotten that it's only around 100 days after the crash & the series HAS been on for, what, 3 or 4 seasons now but that obviously doesn't mean that the same amt. of time has passed in the program!  Guess I had my own brain fart!  <g>

Actually i haven't heard the phrase "Action 1 of the Undergrounds" for over a year.
Back at the CPG boards.

In the episode where Desmond does his out-of-body-time-travel thing.
He catches up with Charles Widmore (Penny's father) at an auction, where Mr. W
is bidding on; a painting of the ship Black Rock, and the ship's log.
The auctioneer's dialog mentions Capt. Widmore, whom i presume to be a Grand-father or great-grand of CW,  thus establishing a motive for CW's quest for Island Domination.

Quotethe remnant of that massive, three-toed statue.
One of my favorite sight gags.
(I also enjoyed the Darmha logo on the shark's tail.)
But i think it is just a piece of art, nothing more.
(but if it turns out to be MORE, how cool would that be!!)

Has anybody heard of an urban legend about a kid soaking in a tub of cement till it hardens?
(i couldn't find it at Snopes)
The Gray's finale had a case where a kid was dared into it, to impress a girl.
Co-incedently, they ran a comericial in which the brand name SUV was used to take a guy in cement to a hospital, AND tow the cement mixer back to the rental place at the same time.
(I've seen this ad twice before)

I smell an urban legend, but haven't heard it yet.
Bet this turns up in Law-n-Order and/or CSI.

Or could Widmore be the original captain of the ship who has discovered some form of immortality, via time travel?  Didn't Ben say he couldn't kill him upon their confrontation in Widmore's bedroom?  Guess that statement could be taken in may ways per the whole Lost experience, eh?

50Cent #II (1st print)

What happens to those people that don't go to the island through the correct heading?  Could they travel back in time?  Could Cpt. Witmore be someone from the present who went back?

This probably how a Lost writers' meeting gets underway....even as we post, perhaps!!!!

This series is appropriately  named " Lost"    It lost  me the 1st season and  I have not bothered to crawl back to where this script is to find out where everyone went or what alter universe they might be in now or for that minute. I hate it when a story schleps from 1 question to 3 more . This story reminds me of trying to talk a friend down from a bad trip.  The more he talked, the more out there he got to the point where he became so frustrated at his inability to communicate his thoughts to the others trying to help him. He was adamant that he had figured out something remarkable but he was unintelligible to us at that time. :yikes:  For me this series had no there there. For me pointless. :sleepy1: For Others that like this well so be it.  Not my cup of Tea by any means. :headscratch:

Ya gotta like puzzles.

one of the things i like about undergrounds, is puuzzleing out the reprints.
But if you don't, there's plenty else to love about undergrounds.

OTOH "Lost" is probably 50 percent puzzles.
I think i got it all figured out,
and it keeps proving me wrong.

I got 2 friends that figured out, last season, that Jack & Clare were half-sibs.

Whoa!  I gotta hand it to your friends!  I sure the hell never figured THAT out!  Did they do so by trying to understand why Jack's father went to Oz in the first place?  I'd never thought of that, actually.  Now, I'm trying to figure out if Clare is still alive or not.  Well, maybe we'll find out tonite.

I suspect Jin will die when the explosive goes off on the ship, and possibly Desmond and Michael as well.
OK, looks like you were right about Michael but I have a suspicion that Jin might still show up.  OTOH, now we know that Desmond survived & apparently went back to Oz or Albion with Penny.  (And of course the helicopter pilot also survived.)
But now there's all this other stuff to wonder about.  Like, why is John Locke apparently dead but with the name of Jeremy Bentham (which also happens to be the name of a famous British utilitarian philosopher of around 200 yrs. ago)?  And how did he get off the island?  And now we know the extension of the airport scene with Jack & Kate & Locke's contact with them.  But how about Ben's supposed suicide?  According to Sayid when he comes to "rescue" Hurley.  And then there's the scene with Walt & Hurley in the mental hosp.  Anyway, lotsa stuff to look forward to next season!  <g>

When Jack's father appears to Michael and tells him that he can go, I wonder if Michael hasn't been taught how to "jump" around through time. Perhaps he knew that Jin was still on the boat and went to save him. I don't know . . . Something is telling me that Jin is not dead.

When Ben moved the island, didn't that big wheel look like the helm of a ship? When I saw that it made me think that the entire "island" is not really an island at all but just that, a ship, a vessel of some sort. I suppose that sounds a bit preposterous, but it's the first thing that popped into my mind.

Huh!  Hadn't thought about Michael time traveling.  I just figured he was killed as poetic justice for the 2 he killed last yr. to get off the island.  Also didn't realize it was Jack's father that appeared to him.  It was such a short instant that I missed it somehow.  OTOH, I agree that Jin may very well not be dead, even tho we saw his "grave" in a flash forward awhile back where Sun & Hurley were visiting it with the baby.

Yeah, now that you mention it, that wheel DID look like a ship's wheel.  So maybe the island IS a vessel of some sort.  Hopefully, we'll find out eventually.  <g>

I just remembered what the sound of the island jumping, reminds me of.
It reminds me of the sound of the Tardis jumping.
