I am told that the July issue of Arthur magazine contains a comic strip about the history of underground comix , wherein Skip Williamson, Roger Brand and myself are depicted.  Has anyone seen this?  It is drawn by some modern cartoonist...I haven't seen the thing myself.

50Cent #II (1st print)

From the Wiki page, it looks like Art Speigelman and Gary Panter have had work in Arthur Magazine.

Do you know if it's the issue with the cover story on the band "Sparks"?  If so, I have a copy at home that I have yet to peruse, and I'll let you know if that's the one!

I don;t know if this is what you guys are talking about, since I neverheard of Arthur, but here is the link. http://www.arthurmag.com/pdfs/Arthur30Part2of2.pdf
By the way, where are you today Jay?

Arthur is distributed for free at bookstores and music stores all across the country. They cover countercultural subjects from the present to the distant past. They feel an affinity to things like the East Village Other and Weirdo and lowbrow culture. I think their circulation is over 50,000! I really liked the three page strip by Joseph Remnant. It shows the power that the underground movement continues to have today to inspire young artists. I thought it was very cool. Pick up a free copy someplace in your community. It's looks much better on paper.

I found a copy yesterday, and I hope the 3 page strip helps sell a lot of copies of Rebel Visions, as it's almost a great review of IT, as well as being the story of the  artist/writers discovery of UG!

McDope

Can anyone post a larger scan of the strip?
Looks very interesting.

50Cent #II (1st print)

Picked up a copy of this one today at Meltdown in Hollywood, CA.  Nice and the online story is missing the 1st page so that was a nice surprise.

I'm lecturing at the Institute for Contemporary Art on September 17th at the R. Crumb Underground exhibit and will also have a book signing at Robin's Bookstore in Center City. The folks at ICA were so impressed with the Arthur strip that they commissioned cartoonist Joseph Remnant to create a poster/postcard for the lecture. Come by and say high!

Just checked out their web site. Looks like the wife and I will have to go check out the Crumb exhibit.I doubt that I'll make it for the lecture as I'm more likely to go into the city on the weekend.

Anyone going to the exhibit Sunday. My wife and I are thinking of going.
