Back in the early 90's, I was on the bandwagon with trendy micro-brews.  I even belonged to a "Micro-Brew of the Month" club.  My tastes have settled a bit, now.  My preference is from a restaurant/brewery called BJ's.  They serve an ale called Jerimiah Red that is oh so tasty.

It's funny cause when I drink domestic I like Ole English and Mickeys... I guess I can't get off the Malt Liquor train from when I was younger.  :P

My X-neighbor is a Mickey's drinker- I have to drink the Mickey's when I visit him- lost my drinking buddy to a divorce. He had the world's largest Yo-Yo collection in 1994- showed it to the world on cable TV. Lost most of it to the divorce. Probably why he drinks Mickey's now.  :occasion14:

Not a huge beer drinker myself, but I've tried beer from all over.

Thought I would post my 3 favorite beers.  I prefer Lager over Ale.  I've had some of best where it's made and here is my preferances.

1. Czechvar "Budweiser" in Czech Republic (Ceske Budejovice).  Ate and drank at the brewery when I was on a trip to central Europe as well as from bottles around central Europe.  This was/is my favorite.

2. Stella Artios (Belgium).

3. Bohemia (Mexico).

Living in Amsterdam for almost 5 years I became familiar with the Dutch beers and the big Heineken vs. Grolsch.  Though Heineken seems much more common and popular in Amsterdam, I preferred the taste of Grolsch.  Funny enough coming back to the states I see that Heineken has a premium light (that I haven't tasted yet) that is not available in Europe.  Actually you won't see many (if any) "light" beers over there...

Oddly beers associated with some of the above as in similar taste like Corona and even Lowenbrau, I find distasteful.  But Beck's and even Samuel Adams I find marginal (drinkable), but would obviously prefer one of the 3 listed above.

Just a note, it seems that the beer that is imported from Europe doesn't taste the same as it does in Europe.  I believe this might be due to the fact the imported beers have to be pasturized and that probably changes the taste of the beers...  I always prefer from the tap.

Probably the most interesting history dealing with alcohol is the history of Absinthe.  Very interesting history if you're looking for something to learn about like what caused the hysteria that caused it to be banned almost throughout the world (it involved an axe and a family) and resulting in Pernod.  What is Thujone and why is it associated with THC (but then again isn't the difference between Gold and Lead similar).  Who was said to be on a 1 week Absinthe drinking binge before cutting off one of his ears (those crazy Dutch).  The green fairy is not just good drinking, but good reading...

I preferr the Grolsch to the Heineken. I've been saving the Grolsch bottles with ceramic stoppers to make beer with.
Anyone ever use them in lieu of capped bottles?
