Nice one Brother J.

Sorry to have outbid you on that (actually I think we both sniped around the same time). My bid was full Fogel guide for a 9.4, so I really wanted this sucker!

Then you got it for a steal.
No problem, there'll be more and I'm a cheap/poor Fucker.

dr_s

I second that. $13 was a  great deal. Congrats

Reverend, did you see this one?  I came across a post of yours from last year that said you have been looking for a copy of this for decades.  Can't remember who Mirabelle is but I think it might have been you?  Do you know who the winner was?

I did see that one, though I spread myself a bit thin at the time of the auction, so I passed. That's one that still haunts me from time to time. As for the buyer, no, don't know him/her, though it's a Rick Griffin item and there are plenty of non-comic people who like Griffin art and bid accordingly.

Brother J

You know what would be nice? If people who already have multiple copies of certain books didn't feel the need to bid up every copy of that book that gets listed on eBay. Y'know, just saying...

Sir Real

I really do want to respond to that, but I've no idea what to say.  Do I make it sound funny?  No, that would look like I'm laughing at Brother J.  Do I look shocked?  No way, that makes it look Iike I'm guilty.  Do I commiserate?  Tough one, as now it looks like I'm taking sides.  Do I just shut up and walk away?  That doesn't seem like quite the proper thing to do.

What I'd really like to do is get a couple of six-packs in a cooler and invite you out on the back porch for awhile, and we'll vent until the beer runs out, or we can't find the back door.  Usually works for me.

I don't get it, Bro J. Are you ticked that the Jesus Loves You got bid up? There were a lot of bidders there and you weren't close to winning, so I don't get your beef it it was that. You got an amazing bargain on the Subvert, so it can't be that. Not trying to antagonize you, just wondering what it is.

I have never gone out and bid on a comic that I didn't intend to win. Sometimes I'll bid low and sometimes high, but I don't just throw out a bid to drive up the price (unless it was a favor to someone like Jay Lynch, but I was still trying to win the auction).

There are probably a couple hundred comix that are favorites of mine, and even if I have multiple copies of those I will still go after more. The way I figure it, if I love the comic, then I can do a better job selling the comic 5, 10, 20 years down the road, as appreciation of UG comix grows. To me, you can NEVER have too many early printings of early Zaps. But there are plenty more. Air Pirates, All Canadian Beaver, American Flyer, American Splendor, Arcade, Armadillo, Austin Stone, Austintatious---I'm not even out of the A's and there are 8 comix (and series) that I will keep buying until the cows come home.

I'm a collector, but eventually (all too soon, I'm afraid) I will also be a dealer, and I wanna have the good stuff in spades.

Anyway, I guess I'm not guilty of what you are pointing out, since I don't just bid shit up for the fun of it. But even if I have 80 copies of All Canadian Beaver, it doesn't mean I won't bid aggressively to pick up my 81st.

dr_s

Actually, the Beaver is a bad choice. From experience, it is almost never good to have 80 of anything that you paid $3 or up for (shipping is at least $3) that won't be a Zap 1. Storage becomes a factor.

Here's the book in question:

To be honest, now that I know this is over40's first copy of the book, I'm not pissed off anymore. Sorry for stirring up shit.

Sorry Brother J, at less than $42 it would have been a steal and this is one of my top 5 UG's and I'll buy these for $42 until the cows come home.  This is probably my #1 unrealized book I've come across.  If you can buy a book and figure double the money the next day I KNOW you would do the same...
Now I know when Over40 gets his first copy he'll be another one I'll have to be bidding against to that will probably want multiple copies...

sure, no problem. I've held off occasionally on bidding on books I see that you are bidding on, stuff I already have. Guess I was hoping for the same consideration. Silly me...

Brother J

Suprised no one bid up the copy of Cunt that fishnuts was selling last night. I was torn, I really want the book, but at this point it's just going to add to my credit card debt. I was hoping it was going to go over $200, then I wouldn't have felt too bad. Wish I had bid it up with it going for just over $150.
