I have been trying for over an hour to connect with something.  Their reservations website is completely flooded.  Response times, if at all, are slower than molasses in January.  Most of the time I'm getting a "Server is busy.  Try again later." message.

The phone line isn't much different.  On the rare event when I do actually get a ring, it will ring for exactly TWO minutes, then roll to a busy signal.

I'm really not used to this kind of shoddy service.

Actually it is worse  than you describe. I can understand the confusion and wait, it happened to me the last 2 years, because there are over 100,000 people going. But, last year Wed-Sat were sold out at the hotel I wanted and they would not let me break it up into 3 different stays. So I had to use a Senior reservation at the first hotel, the con reservations for the second hotel, and then my wife's name for a con reservation for the third stay. This year, they had all of the dealers make their reservations in July at sign up for 2008. On Jan 2 they opened up reservations for dealers who never filled out the form. We were supposed to find out by Feb 5 if we got the reservation. On Jan 5, my birthday (I am now 109) I called the travel agency and they said call the con. I called the con and they said they didn;t know what was happening yet. Lucky me, I actually got a name and extension from the agency. On Feb 5, when I never heard from them, I called the con and they said, "HUH??? Call the agency". So I called the agency and the person I spoke to on my birthday, and he said none of the dealers got their reservations. But, he liked me, and got me an 8 days reservation at a hotel that was $30 a day more than the one I wanted. At least I can use their gym, pool, concierge room, and get points. So once again, the con system sucks.  If you plan on going and can't get in through the con, start looking for hotels on your own now.

Egads, it'd be simpler to just move to San Diego!

i am not going to make it out to San Diego this year  :(

i have made it out in 2005 & 2007 and i loved it.  i have gotten some great books, but more importantly is the chance to connect and hang w/ fellow UG collectors.  it is great fun to head over to the underground after-hours room and indulge in a little vaporizer fun.  i liked sitting and talking with DrS and resting by his booth.  it was funny to watch him heckle the kids about various $2 books he was slinging.  i remember being wiped-out after partying the previous night and pulling my 4hr shift at Mile High... but all i could think about was hustlin' over to DrS first thing to get me a Das Kampf (2nd)!  also, mark bode came up to the booth and chatted w/ him a while which was fun to watch too.  i never quite see all the undergrounds for sale either... that's the amazing part... no matter what deals you think you've seen, somebody always comes by with a show-stopper.

anyways, 2008 marks our 10th anniversary w/ 12 nights in Belize, so i won't totally be without.  :bandit:

Do come again. It's fun to hang out with members from the group and some of my regulars. Still at the same table J9. I am next to the poster guy. He had two people call on him. Ray Harryhausen and the head of Warner Brothers. On the other side of me, the comics dealer had O'Neill and Richards doing drawings. And Fogel seemed to come over every 10 minutes.
