50Cent #II (1st print)

Not much of a selection of UG's at Mile High, but they are currently having a promo for $10 in free comics (shipping not included and a small order is $4.50-6.50 for shipping).  The code is FREECOMICS.  I was able to find 4 so with $6.50 shipping it came out to $9.10 total (funny but orders over $10 says $4.50 shipping, but mine shows $6.50 for a $12.60 order (maybe you need to order over $20 for $4.50 shipping with the FREECOMICS promo code?).

Visitor Q

I put an order in for $10.50 and it does not seem to be working. Is there a minimum order to us the code?

Howdy!

By the time you are reading this newsletter, I should be flying over the Atlantic Ocean. I arrived in Denver late last evening, after a wonderful trip to Megacon, in Orlando. I'd love to have a couple of days here at home in Boulder to simply regain my sense of personal equilibrium, but the way the scheduling worked out for our attending our daughter Aleta's graduation ceremony in York, we must leave for England today. All will be OK, however, as I'll just strive really hard to get some rest on this trip. It may sound really wacky to go over to England only to sleep, but I am so tired these days (and I'm also fighting off a cold...), that I want to do nothing more than to rest for a while. While I'm certain that I will have at least a little fun on this trip, no late night dinners will be scheduled. I fully plan to be in bed by 9 PM each evening...

While I'm resting up in the UK, our fulfillment team here in Denver is going to have to go full bore on shipping orders. The $10 in free comics offer that I put into effect on Saturday evening resulted on our receiving a huge rush of orders yesterday. It was so crazy on Sunday evening that our server was reporting that, during one peak period, that we were receiving an order from someone who reads this newsletter every 30 seconds! In many regards, however, that's not too surprising, as the opportunity to receive $10 in free comics simply doesn't come along very often...

For those of you who might have missed the first announcement, everyone who subscribes to this newsletter mailing list currently has a $10 credit posted their account. To activate your $10 credit, all you need to do is to place an order with us for any qualifying back issue comics or magazines, and then type FREECOMICS into the discount code box on the order form. Our computer is now programmed to automatically apply this $10 credit to your order, and to only bill you for the difference. If you order only $10 in comics, you will only be charged for the shipping. As regards "qualifying" comics and magazines, ALL of our back issues on our website are available to you during this offer, except for the Dallas Stephens consignment issues, and new comics published during the past couple of months. All other issues are free for you to take with your $10 credit. Not surprisingly, we've seen a lot of $10 orders during the past two days for a single nice back issue, or 4 back issues at $2.50 each. That's fine with me, as I have only been able to increase our website inventory because of the generous support that we have been receiving from the members of this mailing list. Passing on a free $10 credit to all of you seems like the least that I can do to express my thanks for all of your help. Please have fun shopping for your free comics!

As a side note, I did want to remind everyone that all of our back issues on our website are currently discounted by a minimum of 40% off from list price, with a huge number discounted by 60% off, or more. This extremely generous discounting is coming about because I have been able to purchase so many hundreds of thousands of great back issues during the past four months. By attending over a dozen comics conventions and visiting scores of comics shops since November 15th, I have added millions of dollars of back issues into our online inventory. These vast inventory additions have acted to greatly reduce our prices, as our computer looks at our inventory every evening, and changes the prices based on the number of copies of each issue that we have on hand. With far more comics going into New-In-Stock and $50+ New-In-Stock every day than we are selling, the overall pricing on our entire website has decreased by over 30% since last November. When you then add into that pricing equation the benefit of the $10 FREECOMICS rebate, even some of our nicest Silver Age (1956-1976) and Bronze Age (1977-1982) comics are now priced for you at more than half off! And so you know, I have been particularly focused on greatly increasing our inventory (and thus lowering our prices dramatically...) on the titles listed in the quick links chart below. Of particular note are the vastly better prices and selection on key Marvel titles, such as AVENGERS, CAPTAIN AMERICA, CONAN, DAREDEVIL, FANTASTIC FOUR, HULK, IRON MAN, SPIDER-MAN, THOR, and X-MEN, as well as the key DC titles, ACTION, ADVENTURE, BATMAN, DETECTIVE, FLASH, GREEEN LANTERN, and WONDER WOMAN. It's really a struggle to make progress in building up those particular titles, as they already sell very well. That having been said, we have at least double the number in stock on all of those titles that we had in November!

As an aside, if you go to the titles you collect and still see holes in our inventory, that lack of inventory is almost certainly not a function of my not having purchased those issues. After 120 days of really active wholesale purchasing of back issue comics and magazines, I've had just about every comic book and magazine published since 1960 pass through my hands. On a great many hard-to-find issues, however, we have dozens of fans who have already signed up via our "Want List" program to have free notification e-mails sent to them the minute that issue is uploaded into our inventory. As a result, those rare issues generally sell by mid-day of the date that they are uploaded into our inventory. To gain the best advantage of buying rare comics from us, you really do need to create a personal want list on our website. To create a want list you need only sign up to establish a personal password, and then enter all those issues you are seeking via our online inventory. This program is totally free, and really does provide you with a greatly enhanced ability to be able to buy rare older comics. 'Nuff said.

Chuck inside the 28-foot Penski Truck
I'm going to close out today's newsletter with a quick report on Megacon. First, Mike Kott and Sue Cornwell, from the incredible Intergalactictrading.com (a fantastic website for collectors of Star Trek, Star Wars, and other film and TV memorabilia), were kind enough to put me up in their house for the weekend, and to ship all of our freight back from the show. Without their help, I would never have been able to purchase the 40,000 (!!!) great back issues that I located at the convention. All-in-all, the show was a huge success, with most of the dealers with whom I interact reporting exceptionally brisk comics sales. If there was one drawback to the show, it was that there were relatively few bargain comics to be found on the show floor. The overall back issue comics market seems to be on a strong upswing, so dealers were not discounting recent back issues in any great measure. I was only able to buy so many books because my friends James and April scored a warehouse full of old comics on their way down to the convention from their home in Pennsylvania. With over 60,000 comics stored in a 28-foot Penski truck parked out in the convention center lot, James and April were delighted when I agreed to go through all of their newly-purchased comics, right where they were stored. The only problems with this strategy, however, were that A) I caught the aforementioned cold working in that unheated truck, and B) I couldn't greet fans on the show floor during the convention. That was exceptionally frustrating to me, as I greatly enjoy getting to know the readers of this newsletter. In this case, however, duty called me out to the parking lot, so that's where I spent most of the convention. Pooh. All I can say in retrospect is that spending my entire weekend in that truck really was worth it, as the warehouse easily contained over 2,000 Silver Age comics, as well as about 8,000 Bronze Age issues. Some of those wonderful comics will be loaded to New-In-Stock on Tuesday morning at 11 AM, so you really ought to keep a sharp eye. And, yes, your $10 FREECOMICS credit can be applied to all the issues listed in New-In-Stock. What a great deal for you!

Happy collecting!

Sir Real

Hey, I got that same letter.  I'm not sure who this Chuck guy is, but he really writes a boring letter.

oldmilwaukee6er

what did you get jason?  i get the newsletter as well and was spying a few "grasscutter" usagi yojimbo issues.

but i also caught wind of the jacked shipping charges via some other message boards.  it is somewhat in character w/ MH to do this... raise prices then put them on sale.  sure you get some free comics, but we're gonna make a little back on the shipping.  maybe i'll go for the $3.50 book shipped.

Visitor Q

I just got an issue of Groo from the Marvel run (I am close to having a complete set) and another Sergio book that I was missing an issue of.

I am a pretty big Sergio Aragonés fan. =]
