50Cent #II (1st print)

Here is some new info. I've got regarding when these covers (and therefore this issues) printed.

As I suspected, there was at least 3 versions of the white tire printings of Freak Brothers #1, but like the earlier gray tire printing, it wasn't 3 separate printings of it, but 2 separate printings, one with an "A" and "B" on one sheet (one of those is the green variant).  Also on that sheet was Armadillo #2 (2nd printing) just above the green variant of FB #1 (white tire printing).  Above the other FB #1 (white tire printing) was Subvert #1 (3rd print, which is now probably a 2nd print).  All on glossy stock.  This probably done after July 1971.

On the sheet with Freak Brothers #1 (2nd print with 2 gray tire variants) is the orange square variant above with the non-orange square variant below, next to that is the white frame Slow Death Funnies #1 (2nd-4th print) and above that is the Up from the Deep (1st print, blue back cover) all on glossy stock.  This had to be done around May 1971.

Another sheet had a Mother's Oats Comix #2 (1st print most probably) above the other Freak Brothers #1 (white tire printing) and next to it is Rowlf (1st print) above Mother's Oats Comix #1 (4th print) all on glossy paper.  This had to be done around July 1971.

Finally, all on matte stock are Big Ass #1 (2nd white box print) above Subvert #1 (1st or 2nd print), next to Motor City Comics #1 (5th print) below a Subvert Comics #1 (1st or 2nd print).  This makes it likely (actually probable) that the 1st and 2nd print of Subvert #1 might actually be just a "A" and "B" variant if both have matte stock covers and the broken circle isn't actually a sign of a 1st print. Done around Nov. 1970.

50Cent #II (1st print)

#1
More info.

In 1971 ROP bought a 2-up 24" Swedish Solna, from this press the following covers are some that  were printed with it.

The Balloon Vendor (1st print) on the same sheet as the German edition of Freak Brothers #1 both on glossy paper later in 1971.  (this makes me believe that the German printing was probably the first printing to have the boots recolored reddish brown.  The missing UGComix.info "4th" print has green colored boot soles and I have another printing that also has the green tint, so I believe the following one was the German edition, followed by all the other blue .50 printings.)

Amazon Comics was done with an early printing (2nd?) of Big Ass #2 (1st print was done 14 Sept. 1971).  The issues should have the same paper?  JK states Amazon Comics done in 1972.

Armadillo Comics #2 (1st print in 1971) was done on the same sheet as a printing of Mother's Oats Comix #2 (2nd? print, 1st print was done 16 Aug. 1971) since both are on glossy.  Probably done after Aug. 1971.

Another update 12 June 2008:

One of the Freak Brothers #1 with a blue 50 cent cover price was printed on the same sheet as Fantagor #2 (1972), I believe this is the next printing after the German edition of FB #1.  There are also 2 covers printed on the same 2-up sheet for Freak Brothers #2 (blue interior with BA #1 ad on back inside cover).

Comix Junky

Usually, if the browns look green over the whole cover, the blue ink (cyan) was too heavy.
It's presswork. Not in the plate, negitives, or art.
And probably not the whole pressrun.

On the other hand, JDavid's talk of dubble burns on the plates confuses me.
(For me, plate burning was strightforward. Shooting the negitives is where i did that kind of screwing around. I'm not sure what's possable with mutiple burns.)
So a tricky plate burn  might account for that kind of global change.
But unless they were delibrately changed, both copies on the plate would be the same.

I haven't seen a scan of a white tire with green. Did you misspeak?
All covers on the plate should have the same overall color.
Unless they were delibrately changed.

If the browns look purple over the whole cover, the yellow ink was too light.
(see the 11th/.60 printing at UGcomix.info)
(I also beleave Zonker was wrong in saying purple is a tell for that printing)

"...probably the first printing to have the boots recolored reddish brown. ..."
I have not seen this. Scan please.
