Sorry Brother J, at less than $42 it would have been a steal and this is one of my top 5 UG's and I'll buy these for $42 until the cows come home.  This is probably my #1 unrealized book I've come across.  If you can buy a book and figure double the money the next day I KNOW you would do the same...
Now I know when Over40 gets his first copy he'll be another one I'll have to be bidding against to that will probably want multiple copies...

sure, no problem. I've held off occasionally on bidding on books I see that you are bidding on, stuff I already have. Guess I was hoping for the same consideration. Silly me...

I remember a similar thread in the CPG forums which touched on this and I said something similar and the answer from someone was that that shouldn't be a consideration in bidding.  Also, I appreciate that but the ones I really want I snipe and the ones that I just watch or will take for the initial bid I put a bid on...

Actually, the Beaver is a bad choice. From experience, it is almost never good to have 80 of anything that you paid $3 or up for (shipping is at least $3) that won't be a Zap 1. Storage becomes a factor.

Well, I might have been exaggerating just a bit, dr_s. That was a big "if" I had regarding owning 80 copies of All Canadian Beaver. I only have four! I don't have more than 16 of any one comic and I definitely do worry about storage. But I do buy multiples of stuff that I love that is not necessarily rare or expensive, like American Flyer and Harold Hedd #2.

Here's the book in question:

To be honest, now that I know this is over40's first copy of the book, I'm not pissed off anymore. Sorry for stirring up shit.

Damn, Bro J, I didn't know I was the one who had ticked you off. I'm sorry that it worked out that way.

One thing's for sure, we all keep bumping into each other on eBay, and when I do have multiple copies of a comic and see you guys bidding on another one, sometimes I will lay off. I've done that with 50C and I've done it with OldM (it drove me crazy that he hadn't bought an XYZ Comics, one of my faves), but just as often as not I will just move ahead with bidding like I would against anyone else.

It's inevitable that we will bid against each other. As a group, we might make up 10% or more of active buyers of certain undergrounds on eBay. I do regret it when I beat you guys out of something, but I've also been beat by some of you on comix I really wanted.

Again, I'm sorry it happened on that particular auction. It was a comic I didn't have and one I had been keeping an eye out for a while.

Unbelievable, this is the one that I really wanted and I forgot to load it in my Snipe site (but loaded all the rest, not winning many).  Oh well, it wasn't a 1st print, but look at the condition that's in...

I've got a 1st printing that is just about in the same condition as that. I think I got Don D's last high grade copy as I know he lowered the condition in the catalog in these after I bought mine. I'm sure his remaining copies are still pretty nice. Some of the books he grades as Very Good are nicer than a lot of eBay seller's NM.

Kind of surprised at the number of late bids and ending price on this one. I see these on eBay fairly frequently, but just not usually all together or in this condition. Good pickup by the comixbible-thumper.

Hehe, thanks. I've been wanting these for awhile now, but could never seem to find them in high grade condition. I can only hope that they remain as such after being delivered.

Now to get the one I'm missing.

Edit: There's a copy of Mendocino County Comix, the one missing, on eBay for $35.00. Making matters worse, there's wear on the spine and a creased corner. And another copy, also for $35.00, which is creased. Blah!

Had my doubts about it being a glossy 1st print and especially a 9.2, but took a chance.  Hopefully for Eggs it's worthwhile...

Does look a little rough for a 9.2, but that's a great price if it is a first print. And by God, that does look like a FIRST PRINT! (No price and cover is clearly not pebbled and not cross-hatched.) Way to go, Eggs!

I only have a second print and have never seen a first up for auction before. Not that I've been trolling lately.

Brother J

that's the ugliest 9.2 I've ever seen...

Hi,
I would agree that it's does look like a first print too.  Good catch, I haven't seen too many of those around.  I would like to see what the back of the book looks like though. Hopefully, that is a bad scan otherwise PGX isn't concerned with less than clean covers. Even if it got re-graded, my opinion is they still came out on top for a first print.

Now I've seen a 1st and 2nd print, anyone have a actual 3rd print to show?

I was beginning to wonder if it was just me. I'm quite surprised that that's a 9.2.

human

looks like a water stain near the bottom and a large smudge under the first big C.  PGA/PGX sucks...
